When NBC’s Sunday Night Football returns to the air on September 10th, it’ll be accompanied by Carrie Underwood’s updated version of the show’s theme song, “Waiting All Day for Sunday Night.” Underwood makes an appearance in the opening video sequence, too, performing the tune with help from football stars like Dez Bryant, Russell Wilson and Clay Matthews.
Released today, a behind-the-scenes montage offers an inside look into the video’s shoot, which took place earlier this summer. The clip includes performance shots of Underwood, touchdown poses, lip-syncing contributions from the athletes and assorted backstage shenanigans.
“The fact that I’ve been invited four times to come back is truly an honor,” Matthews tells the camera at one point. “I must be great on camera, or I live close by.”
The NFL’s September 10th match-up between the Steelers and the Patriots technically occurs on a Thursday, but Sunday Night Football will still air before the September 10th game, bringing an early start to opening weekend. Underwood will play a show of her own that weekend too, headlining the Allegan County Fair in western Michigan on September 12th
