Ice, Ice Baby!

Sand-covered ice chunks piled up after a hole for the Polar Plunge was opened at Lake Storey

As the FM 95 team is getting set to join the rest of the Polar Plungers this Sunday for a dip into Lake Storey in Galesburg, I was curious how thick the ice is at the lake. So I drove out Monday evening, but I didn’t have to get my auger out. A hole had already been opened up in preparation for the Plunge, and the ice pile says it all. BRRRRRRRRR!

Hundreds of participants will plunge into this icy water on Sunday!

And with a forecast that stays mostly below 32 degrees and includes snow, this year’s Polar Plunge will be an event that definitely lives up to its name!

Look at how thick that ice is!

All of the freezing elements that the participants will endure is for a great cause. Money donated to the Polar Plunge teams goes to give those with intellectual disabilities the opportunity to participate in Special Olympics Illinois. If you would like to donate to one of this Sunday’s Polar Plunge teams, click the link to make a secure donation on the Special Olympics website and help make all of this freezin’ for a good reason!!
